Our History

Founded by Joseph Jefferson as the 35th Street Business organization,
the name was changed in 1996 to the 35th Street  Merchants Association. In 1999, the Board of Directors officially changed the name to the Bronzeville Merchants Association.
As early as 1840 records show African Americans settled in Chicago's "Black Metropolis", now known as Bronzeville.  As Chicago serves host to many tourists, we intend to make the Bronzeville a must see in the many tours offered by our city.  It is anticipated that countless citizens as well as inter-national visitors will view these magnificent obelisks portraying the rich cultural heritage of our community.
